What is condensation & Penetration damp?

Firstly, condensation occurs when warm air comes into contact with cold surfaces. Therefore, air cools down quickly and releases water. This turns into liquid droplets on cold surfaces and occurs when there is too much humidity in the home.

As well as this, penetration damp happens when excess water infiltrates through an external wall. Consequently, this water travels into a property.

Unfortunately, condensation is a common problem in many homes. Furthermore, it is said that 5.8 million British renters have damp and condensation issues!

Penetration Damp has no boundaries and will occur anywhere!

How to identify Condensation?

• Water droplets and water may collect on windows
• Plaster could start to deteriorate

How to identify Penetration damp?

• Staining on outside walls
• Damp patched on walls and or ceiling
• Wet and possibly crumbly plaster
• Black mould
• Puddles or drips

Condensation & penetration damp has very similar problems that can occur. However, there are some clear differences.  Black mould can cause an unpleasant living space to be in. This is especially true for younger children, asthma sufferers or people with a lower immune system. For instance, a bedroom needs to have clean air not toxins.
